OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2011. Belarus’ core inflation was at 101.5% in January-October 2011, and 8.3% in October alone, a representative in the National Statistics Committee told reporters.

Staple food prices went up 10.7% on the month in October and 114% in the first ten months; non-food prices increased 5.9% and 100.5%, and service prices went up 6.3% and 56%.

In Belarus, core inflation rate reached 9.7% in January-December 2010.

Core inflation is close to basic monetary indicators and does not depend on variables, especially seasonal factors and administratively-controlled price-formation.

Core inflation is the key benchmark for monetary strategies; many countries of the world have their central banks calculate the core consumer price index [in Belarus it is calculated by the National Statistics Committee].
