OREANDA-NEWS. March 05, 2012. Communications & IT Minister Ali Abbasov is taking part in Connect Arab Summit 2012 organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the League of Arab States.

The Ministry of Communications & IT of Azerbaijan informs that the at event (in Doha 5-7 March) the minister will be the keynote speaker on TASIM Project and issue of cyber security in panel sessions and in the final plenary session.

Within the Doha visit the Azerbaijani minister is also expected to sign an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in the field of ICT. There will be held bilateral working meetings with Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Information & Communications Technology of Qatar (ictQATAR) Hessa Sultan al-Jaber, heads of Qatar Satellite Company, Qatar National Broadband Network Company, Qtel, and reps of other countries’ governments, responsible for development of ICT, technology and innovation. Besides, the minister will visit Qatar Science and Technology Park.

In a meeting with ITU Secretary General Hamadoun Toure it will be discussed Azerbaijan’s initiative on the international convention on cyber-security.

Given that the project of Trans-Eurasian super informational highway (TASIM), implemented on the initiative and under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev (a special resolution was adopted on the project by the UN General Assembly), can bring undoubted benefit to the Arab world, the ITU considered it useful Azerbaijan’s participation in this event.

The summit is dedicated to science, knowledge, education, access to the Internet and information as well as the development of strong regional information and communication networks, cyber security, youth, innovation, entrepreneurship and other issues relating to information technologies. The event involves officials, scientists, and heads of global IT-companies.
