OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2012. The Belarusian government has drafted a new resolution to raise the cigarette production quota for 2012 by 1.8 billion units (up 6%) to 32.03 billion units, a government official told.

The quota for OJSC Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman is expected to grow by 1.5 billion units, while LLC Tabak-Invest may have its quota raised by 300 million units. No final decision has been taken so far, whether the quotas will be raised, the government official told reporters.

Belarus’ cigarette output quota for 2012 stood at 30.23 billion units (a 2.86% increase from the 2011 level): OJSC Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman is expected to produce 24 billion cigarettes in 2012, up 3.63% on the year, and LLC Tabak-Invest will have a quota of 6.23 billion cigarettes (unchanged year on year).

There is a special government commission in Belarus to set annual quotas on cigarette production. Quotas may be adjusted on during the year depending on the situation on the market.
