OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2012. Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced today that SRP Telecom, a Phoenix-based core business unit of the nation's third-largest public power utility, is deploying the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7420 Metro/Enterprise WDM Platform for datacenter interconnect and access services. The FLASHWAVE 7420 combines optical, Ethernet and certified storage solutions in a scalable platform supporting multiple protocols, including Enterprise Systems Connection (ESCON), Fiber Connection (FICON) and Fibre Channel.

After evaluating competing products, SRP Telecom chose the carrier class FLASHWAVE 7420 for its ultra-high bandwidth, lowest-possible latency, zero packet loss and flexibility. They will be installing the Fujitsu platform in major carrier-neutral facilities including IO Phoenix, IO Scottsdale and Phoenix NAP. SRP Telecom now offers carriers and enterprise customers in the Phoenix area access to a metro network capable of supporting cloud-computing, storage networking, disaster recovery, business continuity and converged applications, with security and availability backed by a 24x7x365 Network Operations Center.

“SRP Telecom is uniquely suited to meet the market’s growing demand for bandwidth,” said Michael Sherman, Director of SRP Telecom. “As communications service providers and enterprises look for a trusted source of bandwidth, we can tap our 1,600 route-mile fiber optic network. The bandwidth we provide comes with a 99.999 percent service level assurance, and the stability of Salt River, established in 1903 and now serving nearly one million customers. The FLASHWAVE 7420 platform from Fujitsu helps us provide leading carriers and Fortune 500 companies with the secure, reliable, state-of-the-art bandwidth services they need to be successful.”

“It’s rewarding to work with a company like SRP Telecom that had the foresight to plan years ago for the bandwidth-intensive, latency-sensitive applications driving many network upgrades today,” said Dave Hawkins, VP Sales Engineering and Sales Operations, Fujitsu Network Communications. “And the FLASHWAVE 7420 was designed precisely to support those types of applications, including cloud-computing, Software as a Service, datacenter connectivity and storage area networking. We look forward to continuing our relationship with SRP Telecom as they deliver the communications services their customers need with the business stability they trust.”

The FLASHWAVE 7420 is a scalable solution with up to 40 fixed and reconfigurable wavelengths in a pay-as-you-grow architecture. The platform includes Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) technology and simultaneously supports Ethernet, SONET/SDH, G.709 OTN, ATM, video and SAN protocols in fixed and reconfigurable point-to-point, linear add/drop and ring topologies.
