OREANDA-NEWS. UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486; Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL; Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading, global aluminium producer has been ranked the highest among Russian companies in a survey of public reporting practices in emerging markets, released by Transparency International.

In its study 'Transparency in Corporate Reporting: Assessing Emerging Market Multinationals' Transparency International has assessed the corporate reporting practices of 100 large multinational companies from emerging markets representing 16 different countries. The report looked at what information companies disclose publicly with regard to the measures they have in place to fight corruption. It also looked at companies' openness about how they are structured and to what extent earnings and taxes in specific countries are made public.

RUSAL was the only Russian company to enter the multinational's Top-20, being placed sixth on the list. RUSAL scored the highest mark possible in organisational transparency with 100 percent. The average result for the organisational transparency dimension was 54 percent. The report underscores the importance RUSAL places on corporate reporting and ownership structure transparency. RUSAL also scored 69 percent for its reporting on anti-corruption programmes. In addition, RUSAL was among the best Russian companies in terms of country-by-country reporting.

RUSAL has managed to achieve these results thanks to various measures. The development and implementation of control procedures in relation to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's listing rules has resulted in higher transparency in financial reporting. RUSAL has also developed a thorough internal system to prevent fraudulent actions and has implemented a comprehensive set of measures to identify and prevent damage as a result of work with contactors, who do not perform to the highest standards of governance.

Over the last year, RUSAL has implemented a number of projects aimed at raising transparency, including providing maximum access to all potential suppliers of the Company for their competitive selection process for supplies of raw materials, services, transport services, etc., which has also resulted in RUSAL being ranked no.1 in the National Procurement Transparency Rating among Russian metals companies in 2012. One specific project which was implemented was the creation of a Suppliers' Portal and a hotline for Suppliers, Contractors and Carriers which is on RUSAL's official website. Additionally, RUSAL is working with Russia's leading electronic trading platform - Fabrikant - which specializes in the trade of standard materials. RUSAL has also developed and implemented a new IT-resource “Unified database of suppliers”.
