OREANDA-NEWS. Thus, two draft laws were approved: on the disciplinary responsibility of judges and on professional integrity testing. In addition, amendments were made to legislative acts, in order to promote the principle of zero tolerance for corruption in the judiciary system.

The documents come with a number of new elements designed to turn the judges more responsible. They provide, inter alia, for extending the period of prescription for the prosecution of judges that committed felonies, banning communication between judges and the sides involved in the trial, in order to ensure an impartial view, as well as testing judges by a lie detector.

The draft law also provides for toughening accountability for illicit enrichment, prohibition to hold public positions for a longer period, if the judge discover law infringements, specifications on the confiscation of assets, the pecuniary penalty and imprisonment.

The government today approved a draft law on the remuneration of judges, proposed by the Moldovan president. The document provides for the increase in the judges' wages, that will be made of 3-5 average salaries.

Another bill stipulates that the judges who retire starting from January 1, 2014 will have to decide if they choose to receive higher wages or opt for retirement. Meanwhile, judges who have already retired will receive increased wages, but the pensions will not be recalculated. These draft laws are part of the reform of the judiciary system and will be discussed in parliament.

Also today, the government has appointed its representative at the parliament and Constitutional Court - Deputy Justice Minister Nicolae ESANU. Deputy Justice Ministers Vladimir GROSU and Sabina CERBU were appointed as alternate representatives for these positions.
