OREANDA-NEWS. February 07, 2014. The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) was honored by the Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) with the Infrastructure Project of the Year award for O'Hare International Airport Runway 10C-28C.  The award presentation took place during CISCO's annual meeting in Schaumburg.

CISCO's annual "Pride in Construction" awards recognizes the top union construction projects in various categories and also honors the efforts of an area educator, Illinois public body and labor conciliator.

CISCO's Board of Directors selected the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP) Runway 10C-28C project for the infrastructure award because of the thousands of jobs the project helped create and tremendous economic activity it generates for the region.

"On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Department of Aviation, I want to thank CISCO for recognizing our efforts to ensure Chicago's airports continue to be the economic engines of our region," said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. "Our accomplishments on OMP Runway 10C-28C were truly a team effort. Designers, engineers and laborers worked collaboratively to deliver this massive project on-time, within budget and with the highest levels of safety for workers."

Construction of Runway 10C-28C began in 2006 and was completed in 2013. This project created 1,000 construction and professional services jobs each year during the seven-year period. O'Hare's south airfield and its immediate surroundings were completely transformed and improved. The work required the acquisition and demolition of 500 properties and completion of 19 different enabling projects. The total cost to construct Runway 10C-28C, including the enabling projects, was approximately USD 1.3 billion dollars.

The Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) is a non-profit labor management association. CISCO was founded in 1988 in an effort to bring union construction labor and management representatives together to work cooperatively in order to better the construction industry as a whole.
