OREANDA-NEWS. February 20, 2014. China’s railways transported a total of 2.32 billion tonnes of coal last year, growing 2.6% year on year, according to data released by the National Development and Reform Commission.

Power generating coal accounted for 1.61 billion tonnes or 69.4% of the total, up 1.3% year on year, data showed.

In December, total rail coal transport expanded 3.4% year on year to 205 million tonnes, of which power generating coal stood at 124 million tonnes, up 4.2% year on year.

Among the leading coal dedicated rail lines, Daqin transported 445 million tonnes of coal in 2013, up 4.5% year on year; Houyue hauled 186 million tonnes during the year, up 5.2% year on year.
