OREANDA-NEWS. MALTSOVSKY PORTLANDCEMENT, part of EUROCEMENT group, in the first half of 2014 shipped over 450,000 tons of pure portland cement PC 500-D0-N to customers, which is 24% greater than for the previous year. At present, this cement is actively used to build the high-speed highway M-11 from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, the M-4 Don routes, the fourth ring road in Moscow, the traffic intersections on the M-10 highway, the major renovation projects at the Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Chkalovsky airports, and to build and renovate the following major stadiums: Spartacus, Dynamo, and CSK.

Portland cement PC 500-D0-N is classified as a special cement made from normalized clinker. It is distinguished from ordinary portland cement by its increased frost resistance, its resistance to abrasion, shock, and corrosion, and its high tensile and flexural strength. With these properties, this cement is best suited for making concrete used in road and runway pavement, concrete pressure and gravity pipes, bridge construction, concrete sleepers, and support posts for overhead contact lines. Cement PC 500-D0-N enjoys particular demand in the Moscow market, to which over 355,000 tons have been shipped since the beginning of the year.

The importance of this type of cement to implementing road construction projects was noted by Nikolay Karyakin, General Director of MALTSOVSKY PORTLANDCEMENT:

"Concrete roads have become widespread in many countries. According to data for 2012, 60% of roads in the USA were concrete, 46% in Austria, 38% in Germany, but only 3% in Russia. Concrete roads enjoy numerous advantages compared to asphalt. For comparison: the average service life of asphalt roads is 8 to 10 years, while for concrete roads it is 30 years. In this regard, the seasonal deformation of concrete roads is at most 6%, while for asphalt roads it is on the order of 60%. Furthermore, concrete roads can support a higher cargo flow than asphalt roads, almost by a factor of two! These characteristics are very important for countries with sudden climate changes, and can also result in significant savings when it comes to repairs. For these reasons, the issue of widespread concrete road construction is extremely vital for Russia.
