OREANDA-NEWS. JSC USK MOST will begin reconstruction of the old Berlin Bridge on the South Berlin Bypass in Kaliningrad soon. The first phase of a new bridge over the Staraya Pregolya and Novaya Pregolya Rivers was opened for traffic on the South Kaliningrad Bypass in December 2013. Three new lanes were added to the two lanes of the old Berlin Bridge. The bridge is part of 1-A Riga - Kaliningrad - Gdansk Trans-European Transport Corridor.

The bridge, which was built in 1937 and was destroyed during the military activities in January 1945, was partially rebuilt in 1963. It is now under major rework using the most advanced technologies and materials. The total length of the new bridge, 640 meters, will not change, and the bridge will become wider to measure 16 meters including the safety zones and sidewalks.
