OREANDA-NEWS. Sydney Airport has partnered with Conservation Volunteers Australia in a major three-year partnership to deliver environmentally beneficial outcomes across our local community.

"Conservation Volunteers Australia fulfils an important role rehabilitating bushland and coastal areas all over Australia and New Zealand and we're delighted to be a major sponsor," Sydney Airport general manager corporate affairs Sally Fielke said.

"We are happy to be here today launching the partnership at Cape Solander in Kurnell to kick start the first day of volunteering as part of the bush regeneration program for this area.

"The volunteers for this program will assist in removing the exotic weeds that are infesting this area and replace them with native species."

A Sydney Airport-sponsored volunteer day will be held every two months for the next three years under the partnership agreement in local community areas surrounding Sydney Airport.

Conservation Volunteers Australia organises 100,000 volunteer days a year with projects taking place all over Australia and New Zealand.

"Conservation Volunteers Australia relies on an army of dedicated volunteers who donate their time and effort during the week and on weekends to practical conservation efforts and restoring our natural environment," Ms Fielke said.

"We are proud to be partnering with Conservation Volunteers Australia and we will continue to update the community on the progress and success of the programs delivered.

"Sydney Airport has a strong community engagement and environment program underpinned by our five-year environment strategy and we are encouraging everyone from airport workers to local residents to volunteer.

Conservation Volunteers Australia state manager Michael Beilby said it is an exciting opportunity to partner with Sydney Airport on a number of environmental programs that will deliver meaningful conservation work around Botany Bay.

"This partnership represents a commitment from Sydney Airport to assist us with our mission of connecting the community to the environment," Mr Beilby said.

"Today we've commenced a program of volunteering activities in this historically significant location, Kamay Botany Bay National Park, and we look forward to working with Sydney Airport to deliver positive environmentally sustainable outcomes for the local community."
