The hydrogen incineration took place at a receiver close to the hydrogen facility at Rostov NPP
OREANDA-NEWS. On February 9, 2015 at 22:44 of Moscow time the hydrogen incineration took place at a receiver close to the hydrogen facility at Rostov NPP, the incineration was eliminated within an hour by the NPP fire brigade.
 
The hydrogen facility is equipped with several receivers (special vessels for hydrogen storage) and located on the NPP site in the distance of 300 meters from the buildings of the NPP units, it is classified as the NPP common facility.
 
The incineration in no way influenced the operation of Rostov NPP units: the NPP units 1 and 2 operate at the rated power; the NPP unit 3 is in the mode of pilot operation and under loads in accordance with the preset algorithm.
 
The event did not create any hazard for both personnel and inhabitants of Volgodonsk and adjacent areas. The radiation situation at the NPP site and in the monitoring area did not change and was at the level of natural values.
 
According to the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES) the event is assessed as “out of the scale”, i.e. safety insignificant.
