OREANDA-NEWS. The company Volkswagen Group Rus on September 4th opened a motor plant in Kaluga, which will produce petrol engines of 1.6 liters. The new facility was built on an area of 30 thousand sq.m. close to the car plant Volkswagen in Kaluga.

The power of plant will be 150 000 engines per year, which will permit to equip with engines of local production at least 30% of its produced in Russia cars. Powertrains will be delivered to the models Volkswagen and Skoda, which are manufactured at the plant in Kaluga, and on the capacities of "GAZ Group" in Nizhny Novgorod. Volkswagen Group Rus is also considering the possibility of export of Russian engines to foreign markets.

As previously reported, the investment in the project of creation of engine plant will be about 250 million Euros. Since the beginning of work of the new enterprise in Kaluga it will be started the production of components, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, including installation of crankshafts. It will be carried out the complete assembly of engines.
