OREANDA-NEWS. Sprekere.no will serve as the foundation's physical fitness and activities platform for its corporate sponsors. The first companies have already signed up. The aim is to have more than 2,000 participants in the system by the summer of 2016, in addition to other professional members and  companies.

Sprekere.no is a free service where users can log all their physical fitness activities. Users can even synchronize them with a tracking app to make it easier to keep track of their progress. Users are provided with a full overview of their fitness activities, complete with statistics. What differentiates this physical fitness service from others is the fact that it is centred around social competitions. It does not compete with Strava or Runkeeper; it is fully integrated with them so that users can use both apps simultaneously.

Launched a year ago, Sprekere.no now has more than 12,000 registered users, recruited through Schibsted's single sign-on and payment solution SPiD. Sprekere.no is used as a training platform for private users (free of charge) and companies (paid service) and not least as a competition engine for sponsors and companies. The service is operated by BetaVest, part of Bergens Tidende, Stavanger Aftenblad and Schibsted Media Group.

Combines sports and worthy causes

Aktiv mot kreft (Active against cancer) is a foundation that was established in November 2007 by the world-famous long-distance runner Grete Waitz and Helle Aanesen.

The idea and inspiration came from the United States, which has a strong culture for combining sports events with worthy causes. Norway has not had such a strong tradition in this area, and Aktiv mot kreft wanted to give competitors in sports events an opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause at the same time as they improved their own health.

The foundation has always focused on promoting physical activity as an integral part of cancer treatment. The foundation generates revenues through physical activities for health people and spends those revenues on physical activities for cancer patients.

Between 2008 and 2014, the foundation raised around NOK 77 million for this cause.

"Aktiv mot kreft is an ideal match for Sprekere.no, and together we can help improve public health,” says Sturle Rasmussen, General Manager of BetaVest.
