OREANDA-NEWS The Federal Self-regulatory Organization (SRO) "Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia" proposed to impose restrictions on the import of wine, including banning its supplies from unfriendly countries. The relevant proposals will be sent to the Cabinet of Ministers, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta with reference to the minutes of the board meeting of the organization.

In addition, the association advocated setting the maximum possible customs duties (from 50 percent) on the import of sparkling, still, fortified wines from any country.

According to other proposals, the excise tax on wine products may be increased with the provision of a tax deduction for wine from Russian grapes, minimum retail prices for wine may be introduced, and retail chains will have to provide at least 50 percent of their wine shelf to Russian wine.

As the executive director of the association Alexey Plotnikov recalled, one of the main tasks of the SRO is to create conditions for the promotion of domestic wine. According to him, the choice of final support measures remains with the authorities, while the winemakers intend to "satisfy consumer demand for wine, especially in the budget and medium segments, in case of any protective measures taken in full."
