Russia has banned the supply of apples and pears from New Zealand

OREANDA-NEWS Rosselkhoznadzor banned the supply of stone and seed fruits from New Zealand to Russia. The reason for this decision was the identification of brown moniliose rot in them, which is quarantine for the EAEU, according to a statement on the agency's website.
When the disease is brought to Russia, the economic damage from crop loss and pest control can reach nine billion rubles. The fungus affects apple, pear, cherry, cherry, apricot, henomeles, nectarine, peach, plum, medlar, quince, hawthorn, dogwood and grapes.
The pathogen causes a burn of flowers and leaves, which reduces the productivity of plants, and infected fruits rot and mummify. A serious factor is the long latency period, when infected fruits do not rot immediately, but only during storage, transportation or already at the end consumer.
In May, the Association of Nurserymen and Gardeners of the Stavropol Territory appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture with a request to increase support for producers to combat cheap imports. They calculated that 15 billion rubles are needed to ensure competition with market leaders (Moldova, Serbia, Turkey). Only in this case it will be possible to achieve figures on self-sufficiency in fruits and berries, which are laid down in the doctrine of food security of Russia, otherwise own production will continue to fall.
