OREANDA-NEWS According to Bloomberg, representatives of the top leadership of Russia 10 months ago expressed concern about the country's excessive dependence on Chinese technologies — after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions that restricted access to Western solutions.

According to the publication, with reference to a document allegedly circulating in Russian government circles, some representatives of the domestic leadership are afraid of the dominance of tech giants like Huawei in the Russian market, capable of jeopardizing the country's information security. In the report, dated in the summer of 2022, the sources of vulnerability are called chips, network equipment and electronics in general. Although since then Russia has managed to organize parallel imports of many American and European components, the EU and the US are constantly tightening controls, trying to block supply channels.

To some extent, the concerns of Russian officials related to dependence on Huawei and China Mobile technologies echo similar sentiments in the United States and the EU themselves, who are also concerned about possible risks associated with the use of Chinese equipment in critical infrastructure. In addition, such cooperation leads to the strengthening of China's influence. According to reports, the document mentions repeated negotiations between representatives of the Russian and Chinese authorities and businesses about the possible supply of components, the development of production in Russia and potential investments in Russian industry.
