OREANDA-NEWS  Thailand is interested in Russian energy resources, this applies to liquefied natural gas and coal, Thai Ambassador to Moscow Sasiwat Wongsinsawat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"I am quite optimistic about bilateral trade. Not only in the field of agriculture. There are many potential areas where we could work together and develop them. For example, energy, liquefied natural gas, coal," he said.

According to Vongsinsavat, Moscow and Bangkok have the political will to develop energy cooperation, but everything will depend on negotiations between Russian and Thai companies.

"Thailand relies very heavily on energy imports. Of course, if the supply of Russian energy resources is competitive, taking into account the logistics and specifics of the energy resources used by Thailand and all these factors turn out to be acceptable to both sides, I can say that the parties will be more than happy to conclude a deal," he said.

In December 2023, Russian Ambassador to Bangkok Yevgeny Tomikhin also confirmed that the Thai authorities are interested in developing cooperation with Russia in the energy sector, noting that, in addition to oil and LNG, we are talking about electric generation, cooperation in the field of scientific research, and exchange of experience.

The Russian ambassador expressed hope that in 2024, as planned, the next meeting of the bilateral working group on energy of the Russian-Thai intergovernmental commission on cooperation will take place.
