OREANDA-NEWS. On 05 August 2009 was announced, that Vnukovo International had handled more than twenty thousand Sky Express flights and welcomed 1,8 million air travelers that chose to fly with the carrier since it commenced scheduled operations out of Vnukovo on January 29, 2007.

Messrs. Sky Express are among Vnukovo's leading airline tenants in terms of passenger numbers. The carrier's share of Vnukovo International's air passengers by end 2008 comprised over 13 percent of the overall passenger traffic, and 20,6 percent of the Airport's domestic air travelers.

Sky Express has been actively developing its route network and upping frequencies to the existing destinations. Currently the carrier operates a network of routes to nine destinations in Russia including Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, Murmansk, Tyumen, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Perm, and Chelyabinsk. October 2008 saw the rollout of the low-cost carrier's charter flight program with destinations in Turkey, Egypt and Europe served initially.

Sky Express is Russia's first low-cost carrier, founded in May, 2006. The carrier's 2008 passenger figures stood at 1 million 42 thousand. The airline operates a single-type aricraft fleet comprised of nine B-737 mid-range twinjets.
