OREANDA-NEWS Unmanned trams in Moscow will be launched in the second half of 2024. Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor for Transport, called such a deadline, Interfax quotes him as saying.

The deputy head of the city said that now the new tram is being tested at the depot. Currently, it is controlled by a human, but in the future the driver's cabin will be empty. The drone sees passengers, pedestrians crossing the road, cars, is able to distinguish traffic lights, dogs and cats, is able to stop in emergency situations, as well as predict the behavior of cars and people.

"Next, we will switch all trams to unmanned control, and our next stage will be the metro — unmanned train traffic control. Most likely, this is beyond 2030, but we are already working on this today," Liksutov said and added that electric buses will also become unmanned in the future.

On March 14, Moscow launched the construction of the Moscow—St. Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR). Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony and expressed confidence that the project will be completed.
