OREANDA-NEWS  From November 23 of this year, it will be prohibited to import seed and planting material from the Netherlands to Russia. This is reported by the Rosselkhoznadzor in a press release on its website.

The restriction on the supply of seed material will remain in effect until the Russian service checks the studies of the Dutch laboratory Enza-Zaden Operalions B.Y. The company issues the necessary documents for the supply — they confirm the varietal, sowing qualities of the material and the absence of GMOs in them.

The reason for the ban was the identification of a quarantine object for Russia and the EAEU member states - bacterial spotting of pumpkin crops. We are talking about harmful organisms that are absent or are limited in the territory of these countries. Rosselkhoznadzor notes that the virus is spread by infected seeds, fruits and seedlings. The disease affects zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, watermelons, melons, cucumbers, various types of pumpkins, squash and other crops. With early infection of plants, crop losses can reach up to 100 percent.

Rosselkhoznadzor also drew attention to the wines supplied from abroad. Specialists of the service plan to check the quality of wines and go to production facilities in other countries with an audit. Armenia, Serbia and Moldova may be the first, and negotiations on this issue are already underway with them. In total, the service sent requests for supervision to 21 countries.
