OREANDA-NEWS Three prisoners, one of whom is a Russian, escaped from a prison located in the federal state of Lower Austria within one week, the Austrian newspaper die Presse reports, citing Albin Zimma, chairman of the prison guards' union, who explained the reasons for the incident with a shortage of personnel.

It is specified that all three cases of escape occurred during the visits of prisoners to doctors within one week. "Such incidents are regrettable, but they cannot be completely ruled out. This is due not so much to the blatant understaffing of the prison guard staff, as to the shortage of doctors in prisons," the publication quotes Zimma's comments.

It is clarified that on Tuesday evening, a 35-year-old inmate from Stein prison escaped during a doctor's visit. "An hour-long search for a Russian citizen in the area of the Kremlin was unsuccessful. The prisoner was serving a sentence in Stein for crimes, including robbery under aggravating circumstances," the newspaper notes.

Also, another inmate of the Schwarzau prison in the Neunkirchen district did not return from the Wiener Neustadt hospital last week. In addition, during a visit to the hospital in Wiener Neustadt, a 16-year-old Afghan escaped from the juvenile detention center in Gerasdorf. The search for the prisoner was also unsuccessful.
