OREANDA-NEWS The problem with the import of fuel from Russia to Abkhazia will be discussed during the visit of the President of the Republic Aslan Bzhania to Moscow next week, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Transport of the country Dzhansukh Nanba said.

"We are not remaining indifferent, we are trying to resolve the situation that has developed. At the beginning of next week, we are planning a joint trip to Moscow with President Aslan Bzhania. This issue, among other equally important state issues, will be discussed with senior Russian officials," Nanba said in front of protesters outside the government building of the republic.

He stressed that "the problem with the import of automobile fuel into the country worries everyone, including the government of the republic." According to him, the authorities are taking all possible actions to resolve this issue.

Representatives of the fuel companies of Abkhazia and gas station workers, dissatisfied with the current situation in the fuel market of the republic, gathered on Wednesday on the square near the Sukhumi seaport and after the rally moved to the government building of the republic. Nanba came out to the participants of the action.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that on December 16, 2023, the government of the Russian Federation adopted a decision establishing for Rosneft the exclusive right to export petroleum products to Abkhazia within the framework of the Russian-Abkhazian agreement on the trade regime of December 12, 2012.

"According to our Russian colleagues, a new decree of the Government of the Russian Federation has been adopted, according to which changes have been made to the previously adopted decision. This will allow the volumes of petroleum products that have passed customs clearance to be imported into Abkhazia as soon as possible. We have been waiting for this decision for a long time," he said.

On January 19, the press service of the National Assembly of Abkhazia reported that at a meeting of the parliamentary committee, representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the republic spoke about consultations with the Russian side on the issue of fuel exports.

At that time, it was reported that the fuel purchased by Abkhazian companies not from Rosneft was idle on the Russian-Abkhazian border.

"Representatives of the republic's fuel companies invited to the meeting of the committee expressed concern about the situation related to the impossibility of the normal functioning of their enterprises. Representatives of one of the major fuel companies AZID stated that the paid and declared volumes of fuel have been on the Russian side of the border since December 21, 2023, because of this, the operation of their gas stations has been stopped," the message says.
