OREANDA-NEWS  The Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Maria Pejcinovic-Buric called on Russia to comply with the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). This is reported on the website of the international organization.

Peychinovich-Burich's appeal is contained in a letter addressed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. "The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Maria Peychinovich-Burich, addressed a letter to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in which she called on the Russian Federation to comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights awaiting implementation," the Council of Europe said in a statement.

It is also emphasized that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is implementing a new oversight strategy on issues related to Russia. It is noted that at the moment the Committee of Ministers is considering 2227 cases related to Russia.

Russia ceases to be a party to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights from September 16, 2022. Earlier, the ECHR said that the body suspended consideration of all complaints against Russia after reports of the country's withdrawal from the Council of Europe. The Committee of Ministers of the organization expressed disapproval of Moscow's foreign policy during an anonymous vote.

Earlier, the head of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, Sergey Stepashin, announced the creation by the end of June of a working group on the development of a Eurasian Court — an alternative to the ECHR. According to him, the idea of such a supranational instance "has already been supported by law enforcement agencies and the presidential administration."
