OREANDA-NEWS  More than 100 people took part in the action "Immortal Regiment", held in the capital of India, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

"For the fifth time, the Russian House is organizing the "Immortal Regiment" in India. To do this, it was necessary to register a special site where the event is being held. It was difficult to do this during the coronavirus pandemic, but now we are conducting it for the third year in a row," said Oleg Osipov, director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in India.

He noted that this year compatriots who live in Delhi and its surroundings took part in the march.

"Those compatriots who live in other big cities of India and where the same official sites were registered took part in events there, in particular, Chennai and Kolkata," he added.

The head of the Russian House in New Delhi noted that in addition to the march in honor of the 79th anniversary of the victory, a concert will be held in the Indian capital with the participation of 5 Indian secondary schools and a school at the Russian Embassy in India, and in the afternoon a screening of Nikolai Lebedev's film "Nuremberg" will take place.

Elena Barman, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots, noted that she considers this day one of the most important for compatriots abroad.

"It's a big celebration. This is not the first time we have led the Immortal Regiment, we can say that from the very beginning. This is especially important for compatriots and for children. I personally communicated with my grandfather, who went through the war. And it is our duty to tell our children about our history and our Homeland. Because if not us, then who," she said.

The Immortal Regiment is a nationwide action that is held in Russia and a number of countries near and far abroad to perpetuate the memory of participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War. It was first held on May 9, 2012 in Tomsk on the initiative of local journalists, and in 2013 it became All-Russian.
