OREANDA-NEWS  The launch of the new American Nova-C lander to the Moon is planned to be carried out no earlier than mid-February, NASA reported.

The spacecraft will carry five NASA scientific research instruments as a payload. The launch is planned to be carried out using SpaceX's Falcon 9 launch vehicle from the Cape Canaveral space Center in Florida.

The lunar lander, created by Intuitive Machines, will land 300 km from the South Pole of the Moon at the end of February.

In case of a successful mission, Nova-C will become the first private American spacecraft to land on the Moon.

In January, the American private lunar landing module Peregrine of Astrobotic Technology company was unable to land on the surface of a natural satellite of the Earth due to a failure of the propulsion system. The failed American private lunar mission has been in space for more than 10 days. As a result, the spacecraft was sent to Earth, where it burned down on January 18 when entering the dense layers of the atmosphere.

Peregrine was supposed to be the first commercial lunar lander and the first American lander to land on the moon in more than 50 years.
