OREANDA-NEWS. In 2016 Q3, the number of detected counterfeit Bank of Russia currency units totaled 14,382 or almost by one thousand and a half less than in Q2 (15,797). As earlier, the biggest number of counterfeits has been found among 5000-ruble banknotes – 8,514 sheets, followed by 1000-ruble banknotes – 5,345 sheets. Far less counterfeit banknotes were detected among 500-ruble banknotes (429 sheets). Over the said period, only one counterfeit 10-ruble coin was detected, whereas the number of counterfeits among 5-ruble coins was 31.

As it is the usual case, the biggest number of counterfeits is registered in the Central Federal District (CFD), where the Bank of Russia Main Branch (MB) for the CFD detected 8,079 counterfeit currency units. This was followed by considerably smaller numbers of counterfeits registered in the North-Western MB (1,717) and the Southern MB (1,640). The minimal number of counterfeit banknotes was reported by the Far Eastern MB (277).

As for counterfeits among foreign currency, they totaled 1,191 in Q3, with the peak registered in August (728). The list of counterfeit notes is traditionally topped by the US dollar (1,147), followed (with a considerable lag) by the euro (29), and the last position is taken by the Chinese yuan (15).
