OREANDA-NEWS. Intact Financial Corporation (TSX:IFC) today announced that the Intact Foundation is making a $525,000 donation to Egale Canada Human Rights Trust in support of the Egale Centre, a LGBTIQ2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, and Two Spirit) transitional housing facility in Toronto.

"On any given night in our country, about 35,000 people have no homes to return to. Statistics show that about one in four homeless youth in Toronto identify themselves as LGBTIQ2S. Even in Canada, there is a still a portion of youth who risk being kicked out of their home once they come out to their families," said Louis Gagnon, President, Service and Distribution, Intact Financial Corporation.

"More needs to be done to help our LGBTIQ2S youth. We are glad to be able to partner with a leading organization like Egale to support them in programs that encourage and foster resilience and independence," added Gagnon, who is also the co-chairman of Intact Financial'sDiversity Council and executive sponsor of the LGBTQ and Allies network, a national network that serves as a resource for employees who identify as LGBTQ and their allies.

The Intact Foundation donation will provide support to Egale in developing and executing programs to help the youth living in the facility overcome barriers to employment, as well as building life, social and personal skills.

The Egale Centre is Canada's first and Toronto's only transitional housing facility exclusively dedicated to serving homeless LGBTIQ2S youth. The facility will build on the best practices of successful facilities dedicated to LGBTIQ2S youth in the United States and Europe.
