OREANDA-NEWS. Sberbank’s business breakfast ‘Life after Oil’ took place during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The discussion was moderated by Herman Gref, CEO, Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank.

‘The topic of our today’s discussion is fundamental’, Herman Gref said at the session opening. ‘The key questions were phrased maximally simple: where is oil, where are we and what should we do’.

The central speakers at the event were Arkady Dvorkovich, Russian Deputy Prime Minister; Anton Siluanov, Minister of Finance; Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy; Alexey Ulyukaev, Minister of Economic Development ; Alexei Kudrin, the Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences in St. Petersburg State University; Sergey Glazyev, Adviser to the President; Ben van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell; Dominic Barton, Global Managing Director of McKinsey.

Oil capacity of the global GDP is constantly declining. Renewable energy sources have become the main tendency in the global power generation.  How hard will be the shift to the new model and what disturbs the economy from it now? Which economic sectors will gain benefits and become the new growth leaders? These and other relevant topics were discussed during the breakfast.

At the event, a new format was introduced: for the first time in the history of Sberbank hosting business breakfasts, well-known businessmen, governors and politicians were divided into ‘teams’. Within a short time slot, they had to agree to a joint decision on a relevant topic. Each of 14 round tables had its own moderator who organised the discussion. The discussion lasted for 3 minutes.

The topic of the brainstorming was “What is the key danger an inertial scenario poses for Russia in a time horizon of 10-20 years?” The majority of guests of the business breakfast chose the following answer: a widening gap (including a technology gap) from leading countries.

Sberbank’s business breakfast is an event that Sberbank has traditionally held at the largest investment and economic forums since 2009.
