OREANDA-NEWS. According to Millennium Capital financial company with reference to the Ministry of Finance, Ukraine's total (direct and guaranteed) public debt reached UAH 82,202.4mn (USD 16,277.7mn) as of September 30, which is about 3.5% growth, m/m. This debt includes foreign direct and guaranteed debt of UAH 64,307.8mn (USD 12,734.2mn) and internal direct and guaranteed debt of UAH 17,894.5mn (USD 3,543.5mn).

Still, the experts note that the current level of the total public debt is fairly low, under 15% of 2007 GDP, as compared to that in most countries of Central and Eastern Europe (about 50% of GDP). Also, most of the increase in the total public debt in September (and October) 2007 came from the increase in domestic government borrowing, which is less inflation-stimulating than foreign borrowing.
