OREANDA-NEWS. In December 2019, Russia reduced the volume of investments in American government securities compared to November by about $ 1.5 billion to $ 9.974 billion. This follows from materials published on Tuesday by the US Treasury.

Long-term bonds accounted for $ 4.27 billion, and short-term - $ 5.7 billion. Until December, the volume of Russian investments in US government bonds grew for four consecutive months. So, in November, Russia increased its investment volume compared to October by $ 794 million to $ 11.491 billion. Then, long-term bonds accounted for $ 2.979 billion, and short-term - $ 8.512 billion.

In the spring of 2018, the Russian Federation began to sharply reduce investments in the US public debt. So, in April their level decreased from $ 96 billion to $ 48.7 billion, and in May - to $ 14.9 billion. In August 2019, for the first time since February, Russia increased its investments in U.S. government securities to $ 9.3 billion.

The largest holder of US government securities in December last year for the seventh consecutive month remains Japan with a figure of $ 1.15 trillion. The second place with $ 1.07 trillion is occupied by China, which has been the leader for a long time.
