OREANDA-NEWS  Selling prices for bread have risen below inflation levels over the year, and wheat and rye, which are used for its production, have been getting cheaper since December 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation said. The department's comment is quoted by TASS.

The report notes that the situation with bread prices is kept under control, and consumer prices for it, according to Rosstat, have increased by about two percent since the end of last year.

"The costs of transportation, packaging and related costs are increasing, which affects the cost," the ministry said, commenting on the information that the authorities have taken care of the rise in price of this product, which has become one of the drivers of inflation in the country.

As Kommersant wrote on Wednesday, April 24, bread in a number of Russian regions rose in price by almost 30 percent in the first quarter of 2024. The material indicated that up to 30 percent of the cost of the product is also accounted for by the cost of its delivery, which increases in price significantly faster than raw materials.
