OREANDA-NEWS  The transfer of outgoing Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to work at the Security Council testifies to the key role of this body, political analyst Ivan Mezyuho believes. He told about this in an interview with RT.

Shoigu's resignation from the post of head of the military department became known on May 12.

The political scientist stressed that a number of issues within the competence of the Security Council can be attributed to the military.

Mezyuho linked the proposal to appoint Andrei Belousov as the head of the Ministry of Defense with the intention of the head of state to reform the military department. "Therefore, it is not for nothing that a person from a military background is proposed for this post, but a specialist who has previously proven himself in such a high position in the economic block of the government," he explained.

Shoigu will leave the post of Russian Defense Minister after 12 years in office. The Kremlin explained this decision by the need to increase the openness of the military department to introduce "all advanced ideas to create conditions for economic competitiveness."
