OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian electronic passport is equipped with a new generation chip, which allows you to store twice as much information as analogs existing in the Russian Federation.  For him, a new system of protection against unauthorized access to content based on domestic encryption algorithms has been developed.  The microcircuit is universal, it can also be used for other electronic documents: from a driver's license to an employee certificate of government agencies.

It clarifies that the chip in the document serves as a custodian of important information.  Moreover, thanks to electronic passports, it will be possible to store a larger amount of data than now, approximately 2-2.5 times.  Today, passports can hold just over 70 kilobytes, while the future document provides for more than 140 kilobytes.

Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said that it was planned to begin work on the introduction of electronic documents in Russia in the summer of 2020, and from 2022, the issuance of paper passports of the current model will be discontinued.
