OREANDA-NEWS. The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) removes restrictions on Telegram messenger. This is reported by the press service of the agency.

«In agreement with the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, Roskomnadzor removes the requirements for restricting access to the Telegram messenger,» according to a statement on the Roskomnadzor website.

The agency appreciates the words of Pavel Durov (Telegram's founder) about his readiness to counteract terrorism and extremism. Roskomnadzor noted that together with Russian and foreign IT companies, about 1 300 terrorist and extremist materials, as well as hundreds of materials with the propaganda of suicide, drug use and images of child pornography are removed from the network every week.

After the first reports about the removal of restrictions on Telegram, the Roskomnadzor's website stopped working. At the moment, the user sees an error when trying to access the main page.

Telegram was officially blocked on Russian territory in April 2018 after Pavel Durov, the founder of the messenger, refused to transfer encryption keys to the relevant structures, which would have allowed access to users' personal data.
