OREANDA-NEWS.  The actions of Western social networks that block political content must be regulated, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

She noted that this problem became especially evident in 2020.

“But we see how the very companies that you call Internet giants behave outside the legal framework, if we talk about the jurisdiction of our country, our legislative base,” RIA Novosti quotes Zakharova.

According to her, it is necessary to form a common international legal approach to Internet regulation.

“All this requires regulation. All this is now being dealt with by our legislators and relevant bodies ... The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia has issued a special appeal to the leaders of international organizations on the need to develop common approaches and the inadmissibility of multidisciplinary pressure from Western Internet platforms, primarily American ones,” Zakharova emphasized.

She called the blocking of Russian media accounts "a cleanup of the information space" and "an attack on freedom of speech."

“Hundreds, thousands of sites, not only sites, but also accounts, pages, documentaries were erased from the common information space,” said a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Earlier it became known that RT material, as well as similar articles by RBC, TASS, Vzglyad, Komsomolskaya Pravda and NTV about the detention of Ukrainian radicals in Voronezh, written on the basis of the official release of the FSB of Russia, was blocked by the administration of the social network Facebook.

Roskomnadzor demanded that Facebook restore access to information materials published by the Russian media.

State Duma Chairman Viacheslav Volodin called Facebook's decision unacceptable and violating Russian national legislation, as well as the right to disseminate and receive information.
