OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2016. Kaiser Permanente Riverside and Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley announced the approval of 33 community benefit grants and donations totaling \\$599,464 in 2016. The not-for profit organization is committed to supporting programs that enhance education and strengthen the quality of health care for underserved communities.

Kaiser Permanente’s mission is to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve. It is through its work in Community Benefit that the health care organization is able to provide community-based organizations with funding, partnerships and knowledge sharing.

Key grants include the following:

Improving access to primary health care services

United States Veterans Initiative was awarded a \\$20,000 grant to establish a medical home for chronically homeless and disabled veterans, ensuring coordination of primary care, psychiatric, dental and addiction treatment services.

A \\$25,000 grant was awarded to Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine to expand dental services to the uninsured residents in the eastern Coachella Valley.

Obesity and Overweight

Family Service Association was awarded a \\$20,000 grant for the Mobile Fresh program which provides fresh, affordable and nutritious produce in food deserts throughout Riverside County to increase access to healthy eating for residents of all ages.

The City of Perris was awarded a \\$20,000 grant to the Perris Green City Farm Program — a Community Garden Demonstration center.

Diabetes

A \\$10,000 grant was awarded to the Riverside Free Clinic to provide comprehensive diabetes management to the homeless population and ensure follow up care for other health conditions.

Community Translational Research Institute received a \\$20,000 grant to model and demonstrate the benefits to an integrated community clinic approach to Type 2 diabetes prevention.

Kaiser Permanente opened its medical center in Riverside in 1989 and its hospital in Moreno Valley in 2008. Currently, we provide care for over 450,000 members throughout Riverside County. Over 480 physicians care for our members at 9 medical facilities and at Kaiser Permanente’s Riverside Medical Center and Moreno Valley Medical Center.
