OREANDA-NEWS. July 04, 2016. Rolls-Royce today welcomed Tibet Airlines as a new operator of its engines as it received its first widebody aircraft, a Trent 700-powered Airbus A330.

The aircraft took off from Toulouse, France on 30 June, and landed at Lhasa Gonggar Airport, one of the highest in the world, making Tibet Airlines the fourteenth Chinese operator of the Rolls-Royce powered A330s.

Since its launch in 1995, the Trent 700 has built up a great service experience on the A330 with a market share of close to 90% in Greater China. A combination of class-leading reliability, best through-life fuel burn, best environmental performance and high thrust capability has made it the engine of choice for the A330, one of the most popular widebody aircraft in China. Today, more than 230 Trent 700-powered A330s have been delivered to Chinese operators, laying a solid foundation for Rolls-Royce to continue growing its share of the installed widebody fleet.

Paul Freestone, Rolls-Royce, Civil Aerospace SVP – Greater China, said: “We are extremely pleased to have added Tibet Airlines to our well-established customer base in Greater China with provision of the best power option for its new widebody fleet. Over the past two decades, the Trent 700 engines have been rigorously tested to operate effectively in challenging environments like Tibet, and continue to deliver excellent performance, fuel efficiency and revenue-earning potential for A330 operators in China and around the world.”

The Trent 700 offers the power requirements for all weights of the A330, including the higher weight variants operating in harsh and challenging environments. There are currently over 1,600 Trent 700 engines either in service or on order, making it the largest in-service Rolls-Royce engine.
