OREANDA-NEWS. Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., Toshiba Corporation’s Indian subsidiary in the power transmission and distribution business, has won two major turnkey orders from power distribution companies in India: to supply Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) with a UHV transformer package of seven 765kV transformers, with a capacity of 500MVA; and an EPC contract to supply Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) with 220kV substation incorporating gas insulated switchgears (GIS).

The transformers and GIS will be manufactured at TTDI’s recently completed state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad. Transformers will be delivered for installation at PGCIL’s Cuddapah substation in Andhra Pradesh state, which is scheduled to start operation in November 2017. OPTCL’s GIS substation is scheduled to start operation in June 2017

In India, the efficiency of UHV transformers in transmitting large capacity output from power plants is spurring demand, GIS, which make it possible to construct compact   substations, are also expected to see increased demand in urban area as property values rise.

In 2013, Toshiba acquired the T&D transformer and switchgear businesses of Vijai Electricals Ltd., one of India's leading manufacturers of distribution transformers, as the basis for establishing TTDI. Toshiba subsequently invested in increased capacity at TTDI, and has made it a core production base for the supply of world-class products and services in India and the wider global market.

Toshiba Group will continue to contribute to stable electricity supply and the realization of low-carbon economies in emerging markets, and to deliver T&D products that win high customer satisfaction.
