The Tver Carriage Works (TVZ) manufactured the first rail car designed to carry the Beloyarsky nuclear power plant (Sverdlovsky Region) reactors’ spent fuel, reported the press-centre of  TVZ. The rail car was ordered by the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom). The container car was designated TK-84/1.  The car was manufactured in cooperation with Uralhimmash located in Ekaterinburg. The enterprise designed the transport container for the spent fuel assemblies. There were high precision technologies applied in the construction of the car for the container is to be in strict conformity with the car portal. The car features a specialized load and unload technology called OYaT. The car bottom and top doors open and special-design hydraulic drivers set the container vertically, special devices fix it for loading then.

 
The Beloyarsky plant is the sole Russian fast reactor nuclear power facility, that is why the unique dimensions of the fuel assemblies’ were taken into consideration while performing the design works.  As of now, the rail car has been sent to Uralhimmash to be fitted with the transport container. The TK-84/1 certification tests are to begin then. The rail car is to become operational in September, 2007. If the tests prove a success, the TVZ will be manufacturing another four cars of the type.
