OREANDA-NEWS. On April 04, 2007 the conference was held under the title “The Winds of Change” and was dedicated to the impact of globalization on Europe and Asia, including Ukraine. The event was organized by CASE, a leading international organization dealing with transition period economies, reported the press-centre of  Azovstal.


During two days participants discussed the cause and consequences of shifting the economical forces to the east and considered potential and accessible strategy options for the development of countries’ economies, primarily of Ukraine’s economy. “For the first time the prospects of the development of European and Asian economies within the framework of CASE were discussed in Ukraine. I am positive that the choice of the country was not a chance choice - now Ukrainian economy is going through the stage of sustained growth making steps for integration into the world economy. SCM, being the greatest national investor, is willing to contribute in advancement of the Ukrainian economy towards international economic space”, said Jock Mendoza-Wilson, SCM's Director for International and Investor Relations. “Our contribution is not limited to continuous investments into Ukrainian economy today and in future - in the near 5 years we are planning to invest over $5 billion into Ukrainian businesses. We also actively support the initiatives of the leading world institutions, leaders in economic research and strategy development for better involvement of Ukraine in building the future of the world economy”.


World-known economists made their presentations and speeches at the conference: Anders Aslund, Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics; Leszek Balcerowicz, Former President of the National Bank of Poland, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Poland; Aleksandr Savchenko, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.  For the first time over 15 years the bi-annual conference held by Warsaw Center of CASE was not hosted by the Polish capital. The meeting was organized jointly by the centers CASE and CASE Ukraine. Two hundred renowned researchers, high-rank politicians, representatives of international organizations and financial institutions from over 30 countries took part in the conference.
