OREANDA-NEWS. On April 13, 2007 the vice speaker of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine Nikolay Tomenko visited Chernobyl NPP. He was accompanied by Deputy Emergency Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Kholosha, Ukrainian and Byelorussian MPs and the governors of the regions that have suffered from the Chernobyl accident: Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhitomir (Ukraine) and Homyel (Belarus), reported the press-centre of Atomstroyexport. The visit took place in the framework of an international conference on the fulfillment of the legislation concerning the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident and the social protection of the population of the contaminated areas. The conferees highly evaluated the work carried out under the Shelter stabilization project.


The Russian-Ukrainian consortium implementing the project is led by Atomstroyexport and comprises several Ukrainian companies: Yuzhteploenergomontazh, Atomenergostroyproject, Department for Rovno NPP Construction. The contract for the implementation of the project was concluded in 2004 in the framework of the SIP (Shelter Implementation Plan), financed by the Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The manager of the fund is EBRD.
