OREANDA-NEWS. On April 13, 2007 Uzbek-Indian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation held its regular session in Tashkent. The delegation of Indian businessmen was headed by Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State in the Department of Commerce, reported the official website www.gov.uz.
The commission co-chairman from the Uzbek side, Vice Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, said Uzbekistan was greatly interested in expanding trade-economic and scientific-technical relations with India.
Uzbek-Indian trade turnover in 2006 made up USD 59,3 million. 33 companies with Indian capital operate in Uzbekistan, and 11 Indian companies have offices in the country.
The two states have signed agreements on trade and economic cooperation, protecting and stimulating investments, avoiding double taxation and other documents.
At the session, the sides discussed issues of increasing trade turnover and diversification of trade. Uzbekistan said it could offer India aircraft repairs services.
The countries also could cooperate in automobile spare parts production, oil and gas, cotton and silk production, pharmaceutical, transport, high-tech and other sectors.
