OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2007. Baltika №6 Porter beer has received a silver award of a prestigious tasting competition, which took place in the framework of Helsinki Beer Festival. The jubilee 10th Beer Forum was held in Helsinki in the end of last week.

The connoisseurs and beer gourmets from all over Europe gathered at the Festival. More than 250 sorts of beer and cider from Germany, Great Britain, Finland, Sweden, Belgium and other countries were submitted for the consideration of the participants. Baltika Breweries was the only brewing company, which presented Russia.

Helsinki Beer Festival has a repute of a forum for the true beer experts. There one can taste ales (upper fermented beer, which has a surprising variety of sorts and it is appreciated by the connoisseurs of brewers art most of all) and lagers (bottom- fermented beer, in the brewing process of which the yeast goes down). One of the unique lagers, existing in the world is Baltika №6 Porter, which is very popular among the beer experts.

Baltika Porter received the silver medal in the category "Bottom-fermented beer (alc. above 6%). The sort is given the award for a second time (first time Baltika №6 became a prize-winner of Helsinki Beer Festival in 2000, when it was awarded with a bronze medal). The samples for the competition have been estimated by an independent commission, which consisted of the most well-known beer experts of Europe. The winners of the competition were determined in the results of the so called blind beer-tasting.

The high award was handed to the Baltika representatives by the Festival Director Markku Korhonen and the beer guru of Finland Mikko Montenen. The honored quest of the Festival, world-renowned writer and beer expert, Michael Jackson congratulated the Russian delegation. Baltika №6 Porter is the only Russian beer, which was described in his book "The Great Beer Guide. 500 Classic Brews."

By the estimate, for 2 days almost each third visitor of Helsinki Festival tasted Baltika beer.
