OREANDA-NEWS. Kazakhstan is ready to put billions of dollars into the Kyrgyz economy, but the precondition of investment is political stability in the country, said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev during his April 26 visit to Kyrgyzstan, reported the press-centre of  IBC. “Political instability in the country impedes our investing in your economy,” said Nazarbayev at the press conference. Investors always want the guarantee of safety for their money. “The country needs two things to enable the inflow of capital: first, peace and quietness and, secondly, laws to protect investors”.

Kyrgyzstan’s largest investor at the moment, Kazakhstan has put into the Kyrgyz economy $300 mln (in 2006 - over $100 mln, which is 2,5 times more than in 2005). Soon Kazakhstan is going to invest another $100 mln,” said Nazarbayev. This issue will be on the agenda of a business forum for Kyrgyz and Kazakh entrepreneurs scheduled for May.
The extension of trading and economic relations with Kazakhstan remains one of the top priorities of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade policy, said Kyrgyz Resident Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Kyrgyzstan hopes for participation of Kazakh investors in mining, transport and communications, small and medium businesses, agriculture and tourism.

Nazarbayev mentioned several mutually advantageous projects including those for building of the Kambarata-1 and Kambarata-2 HPPs, construction of the Almaty - Issyk-Kul highway, and extending of telecom networks in the republic. Furthermore, young people from Kyrgyzstan may soon be able to study at Kazakh universities at the expense of the host country. President Nazarbayev suggested taking aboard Kazakhstan’s successful patterns of economic modernization, which may occur only in the context of stability. “When investors arrive, they are reluctant to deal with instable partners. If we wish people prosperity and happiness, then everyone - politicians and citizens alike - should let the government work”.
