On May 02, 2007 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the president of General Motors - DAEWOO Auto and Technology (GMDAT) Michael Grimaldi on 1 May at Oksaroy residence in Tashkent, reported the press-centre of  AsakaBank. During the talks the sides discussed issues of further expansion of cooperation between UzDAEWOOauto joint-stock company and GMDAT, development and realization of new joint projects. Michael Grimaldi noted that GMDAT interested in further broadening of cooperation with the Uzbek partners. He thanked the President Islam Karimov for warm reception.


"Your visit to Uzbekistan gives great opportunity to familiarize directly with the automobile production industry of our country, exchange opinions on the issues of mutual cooperation", Islam Karimov said. GMDAT was founded in 2002 as a result of acquisition by General Motors corporation of the plants of DAEWOO Motors (South Korea). In 2006, GMDAT was the most rapidly developing car producing company in South Korea. Exports of the company made up over 1 billion cars in 2005 and nearly 1,4 billion cars in 2006 (more than 100,000 cars were used in home market). The company is planning to increase this indicator to 1,7 billion this year.
