OREANDA-NEWS. On May 08, 2007 the President of Turkmenistan conducted a sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers at which the results of the country’s development for four months of the current year in such leading sectors of the national economy as oil and gas, energy and transport were considered. With this end in view the heads of the corresponding ministries and departments were invited to the sitting of the government, reported the Presidential website www.turkmenistan.gov.tm. Opening the sitting, Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov briefly characterised the indices of the economic growth and noted the advanced development of practically every sector that allowed Turkmenistan to move towards the aims set for full-scale realisation of its colossal resource potential. The head of state stressed that all plans of our development should be aimed at solving that important task, since only fully using our enormous possibilities we can ensure the well-being of our people not only in the nearest future but also many decades later.


Then the President gave the floor to the Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers T. Tagiev and heads of a number of ministries and departments of the oil and gas complex who reported on the work done and the results achieved by the leading subdivisions of the sector for four months of the current year. After listening to the reports, Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov noted that for the further dynamic development of the basic sector of the Turkmen economy it is necessary to improve constantly the approaches to realisation of the natural, industrial, scientific and professional potential that our fuel and energy complex had. Besides the inner resources of the sector, successfully developing co-operation with other countries that opens wide possibilities for fruitful interaction in development of the rich hydrocarbon reserves of Turkmenistan is also called to achieve the aims set.


In this context the head of the Turkmen state drew attention of those present to the urgent tasks related to realisation of the Programme of the oil and gas industry development in 2007 including fulfilment of the obligations for long-term export deliveries of Turkmen natural gas. The top officials were ordered to think over the strategy in detail and to take all necessary measures for realisation of the concrete projects in the sphere of exploration and prospecting, accelerated industrial development of the prospective fields, growth in efficiency of exploitation of the old fields, further development of the production infrastructure, introduction of advanced technologies and up-to-date equipment, training of national specialists and other issues.


Then the head of state listened to the reports of the Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers G. Ashirov and heads of a number of ministries supervised by them who told the President about the progress in some priority projects in the transport sphere including railway transport and power engineering.  Appraising the work done in that direction, the President stressed the importance and role of the modern communication infrastructure in successful realisation of the socioeconomic strategy of the country’s development. Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov demanded from the top executives of the transport complex to show greater initiative and persistence in solving the tasks set and to ensure fulfilment of all state programmes. As for the energy sphere, there are all possibilities for its accelerated development and increase of the production volumes of electric power so necessary to the rapidly developing economy. The President said in that sphere urgent measures should be taken to achieve concrete results. He stressed that we counted much on the energy sector and that laid great responsibility on its top executives.


Completing the sitting, Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov reminded that on 9 May the people of Turkmenistan, together with other fraternal nations whose history had been scorched by the Great Patriotic War, would celebrate the glorious Day of Great Victory over fascism. The head of state that day we revered the memory of those who had not returned from the battlefields perishing for the happy and peaceful future of humankind. And tomorrow the great and joyous holiday will come to the Turkmen land, and our sacred duty to celebrate it worthily, honouring our heroes-veterans and selfless workers of the home front, revering the unprecedented feats of arms of the Turkmen soldiers who in the severe battles defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland. For the Great Victory in whose name hundreds of thousands of our compatriots selflessly gave their lives became a guarantee of our happy present and future and realisation of our best hopes. Let us never forget this and protect peace and concord in the native land, the President stressed.
