OREANDA-NEWS. On May 08, 2007 Atomstroyexport (Russia) and ERG Insaat Ticaret ve Sanayi A.S. (Turkey) signed a memorandum on mutual understanding. The sides are committed to establish strategic cooperation with a view to promote the technologies, products, equipment and services of the Russian nuclear power industry on the Turkish nuclear power market, reported the press-centre of Atomstroyexport.


ERG Insaat Ticaret ve Sanayi A.S. (Construction, Trade and Industry A.S.) specializes in design, engineering, construction and equipment of water power plants, airports, bridges and tunnels, industrial facilities. Presently, the company, in consortium with Technostroyexport (Russia), is building an arched concrete dam and 670 MW Deriner WPP in the province of Artvin on Chorukh River near the border with Georgia. This is the third highest dam in the world.


One of the key goals of the Memorandum is to coordinate the preparations for the construction of WWER NPPs in Turkey. Since the key activity of Atomstroyexport is the construction, modernization and maintenance of NPPs abroad, while Turkey is going to start building its first NPP, the sides give increasing priority to the active development of their energy cooperation, says the Memorandum. Atomstroyexport CJSC is the leading Russian organization implementing inter-governmental agreements on the construction of nuclear facilities abroad. Presently, this is the only company in the world who is simultaneously building 7 nuclear power units in China, India, Iran and Bulgaria.
