OREANDA-NEWS. Techsnabexport won a tender for developing 8 uranium deposits of Elkon mining area in the southern part of the Republic of Sakha-Yakutia: Elkon, Elkon plateau, Kurung, Neprokhodimoye, Druzhnoye, Severnoye, Interesnoye and Lunnoye.

Techsnabexport extracts uranium in line with the joint medium-term plan of action of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rosnedra and Rosatom for forming mineral resources base and developing uranium deposits and the federal target program “Development of the Nuclear Power Complex of Russia in 2007-2010 and -2015.”

Development of uranium deposits is one of the priorities of the Russian nuclear power industry. The prospected reserves of the above deposits total 320,000 tons - 6% of the global reserves.

The reserves of the deposits will serve as a basis for a future mining company - the biggest in Russia - which will expectedly produce 5,000 tons of uranium a year by 2020 and will use the most advanced ecologically safe technologies.

Shortly Techsnabexport will start drafting project documentation and carry out prospecting activities. The first uranium is supposed to be received by 2010. By that time the company will start building the above-mentioned mining enterprise.
