OREANDA-NEWS. On May 19, 2007 In Kazan, at the International Investment Forum “Russian Regions - Growth Strategies”, Peter Gerendasi, the General Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers Russia, announced his company’s decision to open an office in the capital of Tatarstan in 2007.

This decision had been discussed on Thursday in a meeting with Rustam Minnikhanov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, during which PricewaterhouseCoopers received the support of the Tatarstan government, reported the press-centre of PricewaterhouseCoopers. PricewaterhouseCoopers will become the first of the major international audit and consulting firms to open an office in Tatarstan. The company believes that this office will serve as a “gateway” for international investment in the republic.

“We have decided to open an office in Kazan for a number of compelling reasons”, commented Mr Gerendasi. “First of all, we already work with Tatarstan's largest companies, such as Kamaz, Ak Bars Bank, Tatneft, Nizhnekamskneftekhim and Tatfondbank, and it is important for us to be closer to our clients geographically. Second is the huge economic potential of the region, its rapid growth in the last few years. In connection with such growth, there has been ever greater demand for the services of international auditors and advisors. We want to lead the way in this market and make our contribution to the development of Tatarstan”.

Another motivation for PricewaterhouseCoopers to open this new office is to include young specialists from Tatarstan in the educational programmes that the firm is developing in various parts of Russia. PricewaterhouseCoopers has operated in Russia since 1989 and in that time has become the largest professional services organisation in the country. The company employs over 2,000 professionals in its offices in Moscow, St Petersburg, Togliatti, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk - and, soon, in Kazan as well.
